I’m Annegret. I studied graphic design (M.A. in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University in Kent, OH) and have been working independently for around 20 years, with illustration becoming an increasingly important part of my practice over the years.

My work sits somewhere between illustration, graphic design and visual storytelling. I particularly enjoy projects where I can explore the character of a place, make information more approachable, or find a visual language that makes something feel just right.

Illustrated maps have become a particular focus of my work. I love maps that do more than tell you where things are — maps that give you a feeling for a landscape, a city, a journey or a place.

I have extensive experience in editorial and print design, visual concepts and working within existing design systems. I enjoy both the freedom of developing a visual idea from scratch and the quieter satisfaction of making all the pieces of an established visual language work together.

After many years of working independently, I’m especially interested in collaborations and projects with a strong sense of purpose — particularly in publishing, culture, education, tourism and projects connected to places and communities.

When I’m not working, I’m usually somewhere between books, paper, landscapes and our animals and garden.

Based in rural Brandenburg, Germany, I work with clients near and far.
